Volunteering
The Waldorf School of the Peninsula actively encourages parent participation
in the life of the school which not only embraces the development of the
child but strengthens our community, too. Parents can contribute by serving
in the classroom, working on fundraising events, in the school store, on the
Board of Directors or on a committee, taking a shift at the annual
festivals, driving on field trips or becoming a class parent. The Community
Development Coordinator can help you find a meaningful way to serve at the
Waldorf School of the Peninsula and integrate into the life of the school.
For volunteers who work in the classroom on a regular basis, weekly or more
chaperone a class overnight or have a one on one contact with a child other
than driving, it is required by state law that you have a current negative
TB test on file and a clear criminal background check.
TB TEST
he State of California Health and Safety Code calls for
Tuberculosis skin testing for all school classroom volunteers.
"All volunteers in schools...shall also be required to have on file with the
school, a certificate showing that within the last four years such person as
been examined and has been found to be free of communicable tuberculosis."
(CA State Health and Safety Code #121545)
To get a TB test, see your doctor or go to a Mayview Community Health Center
for a test and provide the school with a copy of the results. The test must
be repeated every four years and must be on file at the school.
Mayview Community Health Centers charge $20 currently. The testing
alternates between the clinics on Wednesdays from 1-3 so a person should
call first to find out where the testing is available that week. They need
to return on the following Friday to have their test read. People do not
need to be low income to make use of this Santa Clara County Public Health
service.
